0-60 in 8.5, really needs 200HP. Like AutoBlog says “This is not a hot hatch, though, so don’t expect it to be. The Mazda 3 and Honda Civic could still bring more zing to your daily drive. The 2019 Corolla is just a more balanced package now”
No pricing out yet.

Hm. I didn’t expect it to be on fire but that is handily outclassed by a Miata in a straight line.

So Billy The Large Mouth Bass is still just a Beige Toyota with Flashy new colors, can’t say I didn’t see that once coming.

I’m sure the aftermarket will quickly fix any anemic power output in three easy steps

The aftermarket has and will continue a fix a lot of cars but I rather pay the manufacturer and get that factory warranty.

Jeez. My TSX is a decade older, probably weighs 400 pounds more, has only 31 more horsepower, and requires shifting into 3rd to get to 60, and it’s *still* an entire second faster.

“0-60 times are irrelevant. Giving it more power would detract it from its mission. 8.5 is fine I can merge into 75MPH Texas freeways in my 98 Kia that does 0-60 in 14 seconds, just fine. SLOW CAR FAST BRO!”

Baby steps? Directional wheels are a fad that needs to pass again, stat.
Kind of funny that my E250 Bluetec 4Matic that weighs as much as a house is quicker in 0-60.

They are “evaluating interest” for a Corolla GR which I am expecting to get more power before the BRZ does.

A handsome econobox with Toyota reliability? Sounds good to me.
This isn’t a hot hatch, it just looks like one, and I’m completely okay with that.

GR? I don’t know if I want to know.

Getting tired of that old cliche, a pile of crap is still crap. Just because you have to floor it to get to 60 might make it ok for you but the average consumer isnt going to. interstate has a point, a car with the same engine size, 2.0L, is over 12 years older has 30 more hp. The Civic Hatch Sport, a direct competitor, is over a second and half faster. I dont care how you spin it, its another boring commuter from Toyota.
And with these small cars if you dont believe that power matters, please go see the Sonic RS vs Fiesta ST. First try and go out and find a Sonic RS, even if it was “tuned” by Corvette , there is a reason you dont see them. And STs have a cult following, while that might be closely related to “vape life” its still a following.
Also I like how people are saying aftermarket will fix it, which it wont because NA, a quick tune by Hondata on the civic is 225hp and 255 lbft. With out a turbo its not going to easily make that power.

Eh, there are rare exceptions to NA getting easy power. On a second gen TSX you can put on an 8th gen Civic Si intake manifold (which does require a bit of fab work) and with a tune it’ll add 40-50 HP. Sauce:

I agree with all your points. Just hoping my comment didn’t confuse you into thinking I was serious and not sarcastic when I typed it out LOL.

True, and I have seen that before but by just swapping heads. Honda allows for that flexibility, I dont believe Toyota has that same luxury.
And i should have stated quick/easy mods (i.e. bolt ons, ECU flashes, and tunes). While NAs have those quick mods, its not as effective as just increasing boost and would take alot to get to 200hp

Ahh sorry missed the sarcasm. I do that alot.

I love it. I’m going to test drive one when the local Toyota dealer gets them in stock. And, as a self-professed Dolly fan, I like that the reviewer’s iPhone was playing her song!
